The National Space Conference (NSC) will take place at the CSIR International Convention Centre, Pretoria, South Africa from 30 August – 1 September 2023.

The event is organised by the National Earth Observations and Space Secretariat (NEOSS) and the South African National Space Agency (SANSA), an initiative and entity of the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), in collaboration with key national partners such as the South African Air Force (SAAF).

There are numerous opportunities for space to aid modern society in resolving the most pressing issues such as water scarcity, food insecurity, environmental disasters and the energy crisis. South Africa’s space sector is still growing and producing products and services that will benefit the entire country. To encourage inclusive growth, it is essential to constantly look for solutions that are appropriately suited to regional needs, raise awareness, and stimulate collaboration.

The NSC aims to advance knowledge and information about space and Earth observation applications, operations, products, services, as well as how to use them for better decision-making and the advancement of society, economy, and the protection of the environment.

Why should you attend the National Space Conference?

The NSC also gives SA stakeholders (such as researchers, academics, public servants, business, data suppliers, consultants, and NGOs) a forum and opportunity to interact, share ideas and information, and spark discussions about how to work together most effectively to create a sustainable space ecosystem, programs, and initiatives for national growth and development.

The conference offers an engaging schedule that includes keynote talks, panel discussions, showcasing, and technical sessions based on selected daily themes and sub-themes. Presentations of both a scientific, policy and a technical nature are encouraged.

The Conference also offers a chance for networking and showcasing, a space science and technology exhibition, and events for youth participation that are designed to promote equality, diversity, inclusion, and access (EDIA).
