The second National Space Conference (NSC) is scheduled to be held at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria from 28 – 30 August 2024.

Organised by the National Earth Observations and Space Secretariat (NEOSS)) and the South African National Space Agency (SANSA) on behalf of the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), in collaboration with key national partners including the South African Air Force (SAAF), this year’s conference is dedicated to exploring “Space Science and Innovation for Sustainability”.

In an era marked by interconnected global challenges such as water scarcity, food insecurity, environmental disasters, and the energy crisis, space science and technology integration has emerged as a pivotal catalyst for sustainable development. The NSC 2024 aims to push the boundaries of knowledge and application of Space and Earth observation technologies, emphasising their critical role in enhancing decision-making processes and driving societal, economic, and environmental progress. It serves as a dynamic platform for national stakeholders from diverse backgrounds to convene, exchange ideas, and catalyse discussions on forging a sustainable space ecosystem.

Why should you attend?

The NSC will feature a compelling agenda including keynote addresses, panel discussions, technical sessions, and a vibrant space science and technology exhibition. Each day will spotlight specific themes aligned with sustainability goals, encompassing social, economic, and environmental dimensions. Presentations will span scientific, policy, and technical realms, encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration to address pressing global challenges.

Moreover, the NSC offers unparalleled networking opportunities and platforms for showcasing groundbreaking innovations. Special events tailored for youth participation underscore the conference’s commitment to promoting equality, diversity, inclusion, and access (EDIA) within the space science community.

In essence, the NSC 2024 promises to be a pivotal gathering where visionary ideas intersect with practical solutions, propelling the frontiers of space science and innovation towards a sustainable future.
